| Abstract | ||
| Among the various grape varieties, there are several with desirable fruits that, due to their high quality, attract the attention of growers for fresh consumption, raisin production, and processing, leading to an increasing area under cultivation. In contrast, varieties with less desirable fruits have lost their place and are often overlooked. It is possible that these seemingly undesirable varieties possess valuable genes for resistance to pests and diseases, cold, salinity, drought, and similar factors. Identifying these varieties is of particular importance in combating climate change conditions (drought, rising temperatures, spring frost, etc.). To identify, select, and evaluate drought-resistant genotypes in Qazvin province, a project was initiated in spring 2002, involving the examination of vineyards in Qazvin province and the indirect selection and screening of varieties resistant to drought stress based on morphological traits. Initially, all grape genotypes present in Qazvin province were assessed for traits compatible with drought stress. After identifying the superior varieties, cuttings were taken from them and planted in the main field. Seedless white grapes were used as the commercial control for the region. Drought stress treatments were applied to them, ultimately leading to the introduction of a new variety named "Mayan"as a drought-resistant variety suitable for fresh consumption, characterized by oval, red berries, and early harvesting of the grapes. | ||
