[English]
Weed management is a fundamental challenge in achieving sustainable crop production. Heavy reliance on conventional control methods, particularly the uniform application of herbicides, has resulted in consequences such as increased weed resistance, reduced input-use efficiency, and environmental concerns. In recent years, advances in smart technologies, particularly machine vision and artificial intelligence, have enabled precise weed detection, identification and the development of decision-support systems. However, translating these intelligent capabilities into precise and effective field operations remains a significant challenge in modern weed management. In this context, agricultural robotics and smart actuation technologies have emerged as promising pathways for the future of weed management by enabling targeted, automated, and precise control operations. This article aims to examine the role of robotic technologies and smart actuation systems in weed control, including mechanical weeding robots, laser weeding systems, precision spraying technologies, and autonomous robots, while highlighting the capabilities, limitations, and development prospects of these technologies in future agriculture. It is hoped that this article will contribute to a better understanding and informed selection of appropriate technologies for implementing smart weed management.
