[English]
Authored by Drs. Pedram Attarod and Seyed Mohammad Moein Sadeghi, Forest Ecohydrology is among the first comprehensive Persian resources addressing the hydrology–ecology–forestry nexus. This paper systematically critiques and evaluates it regarding structure, conceptual coherence, methodology, literature coverage, management applications, and its treatment of spatio‑temporal analysis. The book progresses logically from fundamentals (hydrological cycle, evapotranspiration) to specialized topics (rainfall partitioning, canopy/trunk ecohydrological parameters, modeling). Integrating theory with field data from Iranian forests (e.g., Chitgar, Zagros, Caspian, Lajim), it offers substantial educational and research value. Strengths include being the first coherent Persian text in this field, detailing field methods, introducing key parameters (e.g., canopy water storage, stemflow coefficient), and broadly covering classical models and statistical indices (e.g., RMSE, Nash–Sutcliffe). However, major shortcomings include: (1) predominance of point‑scale approaches and lack of spatio‑temporal analysis; (2) absence of GIS/remote sensing for upscaling; (3) omission of distributed, data‑driven (e.g., LSTM), and Bayesian models; (4) weak linkage between plant physiology and watershed‑scale water balance; and (5) limited analysis of nutrient cycling and long‑term ecological impacts. Thus, adding a chapter on spatio‑temporal patterns, developing distributed models, and strengthening ties to sustainable water‑forest management are essential for future editions.
