[English]
In this research, six varieties were evaluated under controlled micro-plot conditions over two years (2023–2025) including four foreign sugar beet varieties (F-21444, F-21446, F-21448, F-21439), one resistant control variety (F-21436), and one sensitive Iranian control variety (Sharif). The experiment was conducted in a complete randomized block design with four replications. In April each year, seeds of each variety were planted in four two-meter rows in micro-plots. Plant inoculation was performed at the 6–8 leaf stage using a fungal pathogen (R, solani 133 isolated from sterilized corn seeds). After about one month (following infection percentage assessment in the sensitive control), roots were harvested, and the mean disease index (DI) was calculated for each variety. Based on variance analysis results, the differences among sugar beet varieties in terms of root number, disease index, and harvest index in the first year were not significant due to high disease severity. However, in the second year, root number was not significantly different, but disease index and harvest index were significant at a 1% probability level. The average disease index for all tested varieties was 3.6 in the first year and 2.65 in the second year. Among the varieties tested, the lowest infection index (5.5 and 1.93) was observed in variety F-21444. The highest infection index (6.81 and 3.93) belonged to the Sharif control, which had approximately 50% and 25% higher disease indices than the most resistant variety in the second and first years, respectively. Additionally, in the first year, the variety F-21446, and in the second year, F-21444 and F-21446, showed the highest harvest indices with means of 24.1%, 79.6%, and 71.9%, respectively. The F-21444 variety in the first year and F-21439 and F-21446 in the second year exhibited the highest SIIG index. The lowest SIIG index was associated with variety F-21448 in both years, indicating its highest sensitivity to the disease.
