| چکیده [English] | ||
| Among the noteworthy techniques in the indigenous knowledge of grape growers is the management of the vine framework through the gradual replacement of old and senescent canes with young ones, a process that can be termed the renewal–rejuvenation of fruiting arms and main branches. In this method, upon observing a gradual decline in yield, excessive thickening of the bark, or the appearance of signs of weakness and disease in aged main branches, the grower selects and trains a vigorous young shoot that has emerged from near the same area. This new shoot is gradually nurtured and replaces the old branch. The scientific basis for this practice can be sought in the quantitative and qualitative decline of raw sap and elaborated sap within the xylem and phloem vessels of aged canes. With increasing branch age, vascular tissues gradually degenerate, gummy and tanniferous deposits accumulate within them, and the hydraulic efficiency of the cane decreases. Furthermore, numerous wounds caused by repeated pruning over the years expose the woody tissue to the entry of decay agents and trunk diseases. Through empirical recognition of this biological limitation, and before complete deterioration of the cane occurs, the grower employs a long‑term plan to substitute a new shoot for the old, declining vine branch, thereby maintaining the continuity of yield and vine health over decades. This operation, which requires patience, precision, and a deep understanding of vine growth physiology, represents a prominent example of sustainable production management in traditional horticulture and has been practiced for years by grape growers in the zirestagh region of Shahroud County. | ||
