| The cowpea weevil, Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Col.: Chrysomelidae), is one of the most serious pests of legume crops worldwide, affecting both yield and quality. Humans have traditionally relied on chemical pesticides for control, which are hazardous to human health and the environment. Another sustainable means of pest management is through the use of plant essential oils. This study aimed to chemically characterize and evaluate the fumigation toxicity of essential oils from lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and spearmint (Mentha spicata) on cowpea weevil mortality and biological parameters. The main constituents of spearmint oil, as revealed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, were carvone (76.42%), menthol (3.29%), eucalyptol (3.27%), and D-limonene (3.12%). In comparison, the main constituents of lavender oil were linalool (38.01%), linalyl acetate (21.27%), eucalyptol (9.6%), camphor (8.07%), and lavandulol (5.11%). The oils were found to have LC50 values of 5.27 µL/L air (against males) and 10.12 µL/L air (against females) for lavender, and 9.45 µL/L air (against males) and 17.36 µL/L air (against females) for spearmint. Also, the effect of the two essential oils on the biological parameters of insects was assessed after exposure to LC30 concentrations. The LC30 application lowered egg deposition, extended larval duration, reduced hatching success, and shortened the lifespan of both sexes of weevils. According to these findings, lavender essential oil particularly holds promise as a management option for the cowpea weevil in integrated pest management (IPM) programs. | ||

| سوسک چهار نقطه ای حبوبات Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Col.:Chrysomelidae) یکی از آفات مهم حبوبات در جهان میباشد که روی کمیت و کیفیت محصول اثر میگذارد. بشر به صورت سنتی از آفت کشهای شیمیایی برای کنترل آفات استفاده میکرده است که هم برای سلامتی انسان و هم برای محیط زیست سمی میباشند. یک روش دیگر مدیریت پایدار آفات استفاده از اسانس گیاهان میباشد. هدف این مطالعه این است که خصوصیات شیمیایی و سمیت تنفسی اسانس اسطوخودوس (Lavandula angustifolia) و نعناع دشتی (Mentha spicata) را روی مرگ و میر و پارامترهای بیولوژیکی سوسک چهارنقطه ای حبوبات بررسی کند. استفاده از آنالیز GC-MS نشان داد که ترکیبات اصلی اسانس نعناع دشتی کارون (42 / 76%)، منتول (29/ 3%)، ایوکالیپتول (27 / 3%)، و دی-لیمونین (12 /3%) بودند در صورتیکه ترکیبات اصلی اسانس اسطوخودوس لینالول (01/ 38%)، لینالیل استات (27/ 21%)، ایوکالیپتول (6/ 9%)، کامفور (07/ 8%) و لاواندولول (11/ 5%) بودند. سمیت کشنده 50 درصد (lC50) اسانس اسطوخودوس برعلیه نرها برابر با 27/ 5 و برعلیه ماده ها برابر با 12/ 10 میکرولیتر بر لیترهوا بود در حالیکه سمت کشنده 50 درصد اسانس نعناع دشتی روی نرها برابر با 45 / 9 و روی ماده ها برابر با 36 / 17 میکرولیتر بر لیتر هوا بود. همچنین سمیت دو اسانس روی پارامترهای بیولوژیکی حشرات وقتیکه در معرض دز کشنده 30 درصد (LC30) قرار گرفتند بررسی شدند. نتایج نشان داد که دز کشنده 30 درصد باعث کاهش تخمگذاری، طولانی کردن دوره لاروی، کاهش میزان تفریخ تخم ها، و کاهش طول عمر هر دو جنس نر و ماده شدند. بنابراین برمبنای داده های بدست آمده بخصوص اسانس اسطوخودوس بعنوان یک گزینه برای مدیریت سوسک چهار نقطه ای حبوبات در برنامه های مدیریت انبوهی آفات امیدبخش میباشد. | ||
