| Abstract | ||
| A field experiment was conducted at the experiment station of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jiroft, during the growing season of 2017 and 2018. A randomized complete blocks design with three replications was used. Treatments included mycorrhiza, vermicompost, cow manure, chemical fertilizer (NPK) and control. Some traits were investigated such as plant height, number of lateral stem, number of leaves per plant, plant dry weight, biological yield, essential oil percentage and essential oil yield. Results indicated that total of characteristics significantly affected by fertilizer treatments. The plants treated with vermicompost had the highest number of lateral stems, plant dry weight, biological yield and essential oil yield. However, with higher of plants height treated with vermicompost, these plants did not have significant difference with cow manure and fertilizer. Application of vermicompost, mycorrhizal fertilizers and control treatment produced the highest percentage of essential oil in lemon balm 1.69, 1.65 and 1.56% respectively. Also, cow manure and chemical fertilizer produced the least amount of essential oil. Generally, vermicompost fertilizer had a better effect on growth characteristics on lemon balm. Therfore, the positive role of vermicompost on improving the growth characteristics of lemon balm, this fertilizer can be used in the sustainable development of medicinal plants. | ||
